1. Stress is the natural response of the body when confronted by danger.
2. We cannot stop stress happening, but we can minimise the effects.
3. It can happen to any of us – do not be ashamed to admit that you are feeling stressed.
4. It is not ‘all in the mind’ as many people think- but it can and does affect mental and physical health.
5. Stress is a contributory factor in many other illnesses – so don’t just ignore it!
6. Recognising the signs and symptoms early on is important – so be vigilant – all the times!
7. Take time off for hobbies and spend time with family and friends.
8. Set aside a small amount of time each day to do something that is important to you.
9. The signs and symptoms of stress are common to many illnesses, if you fail to improve see your doctor.
10. Laughter is good for you!
Animals do suffer from stress but, unlike us, they tend to live in the here and now. So long as their basic needs (food and safety) are met they can exist fairly happily. Sadly our brains have developed to such an extent that we are able to worry about what happened in the past, what is happening to us now and what might happen in the future.
